Opened in 2014 by Zack Pollack, Alimento is an enduring neighborhood Italian restaurant. Go enough and you’ll start to see familiar faces before becoming a regular yourself. The interior is cozy but never stuffy, and the food continues to be a standout in the neighborhood. The curated wine menu is focused on natural varietals so be sure to ask for a recommendation and order a glass, or a bottle. LA has seen an influx of bagel shops over the last few years, but Maury’s continues to stand out.

On a recent Thursday afternoon, four-top tables were occupied with small groups of friends or double-lunch-dating couples eating shrimp cocktail, loaded nachos or Saratoga chips. Some drank iced teas, some beers, and some kept bottles of wine sitting on the edge of their tables at the ready. The Twins played the Guardians on one TV as a round of golf played on the other. Hundreds of framed photographs filled the walls − photos of regular patrons and race car drivers, high school athletic teams and former U.S. presidents. Now the Bacari team is on the scene, with hopes of reviving the hangout and making it a staple destination once again. With design in mind, the new Cliff’s Edge pickup should be right in Bacari’s wheelhouse. The former 16-year tenant leaves behind one of LA’s best patios, a leafy oasis with shabby-chic Mediterranean vibes and a dimly lit indoor bar area. For years the restaurant was a staple for Silver Lake diners and drinkers, even helping to sow the rise of star chefs like Vartan Abgaryan, but recent pre-pandemic times had been rough for the property. Owner Dana Hollister fought to hold onto the building even through bankruptcy proceedings brought on by a lawsuit against none other than singer Katy Perry that dates back to 2017. Ultimately the building was put on the market just before the pandemic, and the restaurant itself announced its formal closure last October. Silver Lake has gained a reputation for being a dining destination in Los Angeles for good reason.
Say Cheese is a specialty cheese shop in Silver Lake that also serves excellent sandwiches and other cafe fare. Try the Donatello with prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato, and basil, or the toasted Barcelona with jamon serrano and manchego cheese. Pine & Crane, which now has a location in Downtown LA, has been serving its tight menu of Taiwanese and Chinese classics since 2014. Bulan serves some of the best Thai food in Silver Lake — and it just happens to be entirely vegetarian and most of the menu can be prepared gluten-free.
